Abingdon United jumped up to second place in the Zamaretto Southern League Division 1 South & West table after a splendid 2-0 win away to Mangotsfield last night.

Two goals in the first eight minutes did the damage.

The home crowd of 135 were stunned soon after the opening whistle when John Mills got behind the home defence and crossed for Ben Weedon to shoot home from five yards.

And it got even better seven minutes later. James Organ spotted the Mangotsfield keeper off his line and lobbed him from 20 yards to make it 2-0.

Abingdon continued to call the shots after the break and Richard Peirson almost added a third when his header came back off the crossbar.

Didcot Town bowed out of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup at the second-round stage when they lost 3-1 away to Wycombe Wanderers.

The visitors trailed 3-0 at half-time, Morgan Williams pulling a goal back after the break after being set up by Mark Draycott.

Former Didcot striker Stuart Beavon, now with Wycombe, came on as substitute for the last 25 minutes as he continued his comeback from injury.
