Oxford City Stars moved up to fifth in Division 1 South of the English National League after beating Haringey Greyhounds 5-3 Oxford travelled to London with a depleted squad, with Dean Francis, Grant Bailey, Shannon Taylor, Dax Hedges and Yousif Abu Saada all unavailable.

There were only limited signs of the much-anticipated physical encounter as Oxford worked hard for the win.

The visitors went in front when Andy Cox slotted the puck past the keeper.

But within a minute, Haringey were level when Gary Dodds swept home past netminder Glen Jackson.

Haringey bossed the second period to take a 3-1 lead.

Nick Gallagher put them in front in the 26th minute and Scott Beeson extended the lead on the powerplay.

Whatever was said in the Oxford dressing room during the break had the desired effect as Stars came out intent on turning things around.

Lee Featherstone reduced the arrears, before man-of-the-match Cox brought the scores level with ten minutes left.

And Oxford’s dominance continued as Richard Wojciak placed the puck into the net to give them the lead, and with five minutes left, captain Darren Elliott slammed home No 5 to secure victory.

Haringey’s discipline let them down in the dying seconds when Liam Doyle earned himself a match penalty with only half a minute left on the clock.
