Beth Hawtin, the youngest of the talented clan at Oxford City, upstaged her sisters in the second round of the Apex Chiltern Cross Country League at Wigmore Park, Luton.

Hawtin took home the silver medal in the under 13 girls’ race, finishing seven seconds behind winner Connie Lewis, from Chiltern Harriers, clocking 18mins 56secs.

Her teammates, Mya Walker and Beth Mulvany finished 73rd and 79th respectively.

City’s sole under 11 girl, Ciara Huxley, was 25th in her race, clocking 9.43.

In the under 15 girls’ competition, City’s girls packed well to finish in second place.

They were led home by Imogen Kempton, who was sixth in 13.36.

Lauren Hawtin clocked 13.41 for seventh place, with Rebecca Byren (16th) and Elissa Clarke (20th) making up the quartet.

The oldest of the Hawtin sisters, Melissa, was third in the under 17 girls’ race, helping City to second in the team event, 14 points behind Marshall Milton Keynes.

At senior level, Diane Sharp was top senior home in the women’s race, finishing 66th, while Julian Richardson led the men’s challenge, finishing 43rd.

Multiple acccidents on the M40 dented Headington Roadrunners’ chances, especially in the women’s race, which both Jude Craft and Laura Kyte missed completely.

Helen Barnes led the way for those that did arrive, finishing sixth in 22.17.

Frances Burge, Lisa Shaw and Polly Owens completed their quartet with times of 23.43, 27.12 and 27.15 respectively.

Chris Dettmar finished 19th in for Headington’s men, clocking 29.46.
