Vikings Club made it three wins in a row with a brilliant 4-1 victory at the Democrats Club in Section 1 of the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford & District League, writes PETE EWINS. Democrats’ John Patey scored 8,310 to take the first game against Alan Oliver. But then Alan Lacey reeled off a break of 10,470 in his 10,780 to make it 1-1.

Ian Moss (4,500), Mike Jones (5,210), who also lost a 5,000 plus break, and Bob Allsworth completed victory.

Leaders Kennington Club won 4-1 at home to Masons A. Ian Gordon (5,170), Kevin Godfrey (7,700, break 5,200), Steven Sheard (8,080, break 6,550) and Mark Trafford (9,280, break 5,300), who beat Brian Rose (4,560), took the opening four games.

In a scrappy finale, Mick Murphy prevented a whitewash by beating Pauline Withey 2,560-1,380.

Section 3 leaders Gladiators Club B saw their five-point lead at the top reduced after crashing to a 4-1 defeat at second-placed Headington Conservative Club.

Graham Mildenhall won the opening leg by scoring 3,090 against Jenny Webb.

But then Reg Johnson recorded the highest away break so far with 4,380 in a 5,230-1,150 win over Sid Ponting to make it 1-1.

Tim Jeffries (4,790), Dave Gordon and Ian Dunmore won the next three games for Headington.
