Retiring manager Dave Stemp will get the chance to lift the one trophy which has eluded him during his 30 years in charge of Vale of White Horse Under 11s following a 2-0 semi-final win over Sutton in the Southern Counties Cup.
Stemp will be at the helm for the last time as Vale take on Lewisham at a venue and on a date to be confirmed – bidding to end a hoodoo which has seen the association finish runners-up five times.
Joe Hartley’s first-half brace inflicted a first defeat of the season upon Sutton at Oxford Brookes Westminster Institute of Education.
Alfie West’s splendid cross from the left set him up to slot home the opener.
And Hartley doubled Vale’s advantage after the Sutton keeper fumbled Sam Fletcher’s cross.
