Vikings sprang a massive surprise in the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League’s Team Knockout Cup Group A semi-final with a 4-1 victory over Premier champions Kennington Club at Headington Conservative Club, writes PETE EWINS.

Bob Allsworth’s 3,000 break clinched the opener, and then Alan Lacey (8,920) made it 2-0.

Kennington were unlucky in the third game when, with Vikings’ Alan Oliver 5,000 in front, Mark Trafford racked up 8,000 only to lose his score.

Ian Moss beat Ian Gordon 6,520-1,420 to make it 4-0, before Steven Sheard rattled up a 16,920 break to salvage some pride for Kennington.

Vikings now face Masons A in the final after they beat Didcot Conservative Club 4-1 at the Gladiators Club.

Martyn Wood (3,960), Lewis Stratford (6,930), Dave Rose (4,4000) and Alan Lowe (4,040) took the first four games, before Dennis Atkins (3,660) prevented a whitewash.

In Group B, Section 2 champions Comrades Club defeated Section 3 winners Gladiators Club B 4-1 at the Democrats.

Adam Thorn (4,090), Simon Ellam (7,990), Chris Alexander (8,440) and Chris Storch reeled off the first four games, before Reg Johnson (4,410) claimed Gladiators’ point.

Comrades face either Gladiators Club A or Marlborough Club, who play next Thursday.
