Vale of White Horse bowed out of the ESFA Under 13 Trophy with a 3-1 defeat by Portsmouth in the second round at Gosport Borough FC.

Connor Johns made two excellent saves for Vale, but could not prevent Portsmouth taking the lead just before half time.

Poor tackling allowed Portsmouth to double their advantage early in the second half, and a tremendous 25-yard shot into the top corner made it 3-0.

Vale eventually got the goal they deserved when Aidan Davies was fouled in the penalty area, and Harry Denton fired home the spot-kick.

SAM Barder bagged a brace in Vale of White Horse Under 14s’ 4-1 win at Newbury in the Vale Cup at Henwick Worthy Sports Ground, Thatcham.

Newbury took the lead, but Barder lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper for the equaliser on the half-hour.

Two minutes later, Vale were ahead when Jack Alexander’s low cross was turned into his own net by a Newbury defender.

Barder increased the lead from the penalty spot in the second half after he had been brought down, and Anthony Martin completed the scoring with five minutes left.

JOE Lilley’s second-half brace gave Vale of White Horse Under 11s a 4-2 win over Chiltern & South Bucks in the County League.

Vale had been pegged back to 2-2 in the clash at Oxford Brookes Westminster Institute of Education when Lilley fired them back in front after Callum Rowe picked him out.

Rowe was again the provider as Lilley struck his second into the top corner to clinch victory.

Elias Djaoui and Jack Buchanan had fired Vale into a two-goal lead, before Chiltern levelled with goals either side of half-time from Jacob Neary and Josh Roberts.
