Steeple Aston Res fought back to beat Heyford Athletic Res 3-2 away from home in Division 3 of the Banbury District & Lord Jersey FA.

Scott Powles fired Steeple ahead early on, only for Adam Horsburgh to level with a great effort from the edge of the area.

Just before half-time, Jon Childs gave Heyford the lead.

After the break, two quick strikes from Tom James and Matthew Reed saw Steeple go back in front.

And despite Heyford’s efforts, Steeple held on.

Meanwhile, Abba Athletic twice fought back to beat Division 1 side Oxon Shamrock 5-3 in the first round of the Mid Oxon Cup.

Shamrock opened the scoring through John Dent, and although Matty Jones equalised, Jay Bedford’s free-kick restored Shamrock’s advantage.

Abba were level when Colin Gilmer hit a cracker from the edge of the penalty area.

Jono Drew then gave Abba the lead from the penalty spot just before the break.

Matt Drew’s double made it 5-2 and although Paul Anderson reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, it was too late.
