Ronnie Moore is widely regarded as one of the greatest Rotherham United managers of all time.

That’s quite an accolade, when one considers that others to have managed the Millers include Danny Williams, Tommy Docherty, Ian Porterfield, Emlyn Hughes, Norman Hunter, Archie Gemmill and Mick Harford.

Moore was Rotherham boss from 1997-2005 and in that time they gained two successive promotions and, against all odds, maintained Championship football for three years.

He returned for a second stint as manager in September last year, and again brought success.

Considering the lack of home advantage there appears to be in playing at Don Valley Stadium, Rotherham have done very well.

They reached the League Two play-off final last season, going down 3-2 to Dagenham & Redbridge at Wembley after twice hauling themselves level.

In the play-off semi-finals, prolific striker Adam Le Fondre killed off Aldershot’s hopes, hitting the winner in a 1-0 victory at the Rec and then the opening goal when Rotherham beat the Shots 2-0 in the second leg.

This season they have only lost once at home in the league, 4-3 to Wycombe last month, and they were also involved in another amazingly high-scoring match, beating Cheltenham Town 6-4 in September.
