Day ticket fishery Milton Pools, which is just on the south side of the M40 at Milton, near Wheatley, had produced a 29.5.0 common carp for Bristol angler Mike Lewin, writes Andy Webber.

You normally associate big carp with complicated rigs and baits, but there was nothing complex about the bait Mike was using – sweetcorn, with a few freebies scattered around the swim.

He caught the fish in the early hours of the morning and it took around 15 minutes to land.

It just goes to show that the old fashioned baits like bread, worms and corn can still attract big fish.

It will cost you £6 for one rod and £10 for two at Milton Pools, which contains several smallish lakes all holding plenty of fish for both beginner and expert.

l A FEW weeks ago I told you about Ed Betteridge, from Derbyshire, who banked the huge carp known as ‘Choco’ from Linch Hill at a weight 49.12.0 He has since been back to an undisclosed Oxfordshire pit, this time catching a mirror carp of 40.9.0.

It came during a three-day session on the pit using a Vision Baits Ocean Protein boilie over a bed of boilies.
