Jack Brooks will work with legendary Aussie paceman Dennis Lillee as he looks to boost his own fast bowling career.

The Northants seamer flies out to India today for two weeks at the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai where he and four other English bowlers will be coached by Lillee.

Notts duo Andy Carter and Jake Ball, Warwickshire’s Boyd Rankin and Gloucestershire’s David Payne make up the party.

Brooks, 26, who played for Tiddington, Oxford and Oxfordshire before getting his first-class break, is relishing the opportunity of the ECB-organised trip.

“David Capel (Northants head coach) is going along as a coach and he was asked if he wanted to bring one of his seamers,” said Brooks.

“It was not really an opportunity I could turn down.

“I have raised the money through sponsorship and received £1,000 from the Northants Supporters Club.

“You get to work with Dennis Lillee, which is great in itself.

“It is a specific fast-bowling programme. There will be a lot of training, yoga and nutrition, just to give us an idea of what you need to stay at that level.

“It will be very intense and I will get match fit.”

Brooks made a significant impression opening the bowling for Northants last season and he is keen to kick on.

He said: “I am always looking to improve and try to raise my game to the next level. That is international level for me.

“It is quite a big step up, especially for someone who has not been through the ECB programmes. But in India I’m going to be under the eyes of the ECB, who know about me from last season.

“It is nice to be given a little bit of a chance, although I am not saying I am going to be picked straight away.

“It is definitely my aim to play for England.”

Brooks will get the chance for a bit more sunshine when he and his Northants teammates head out for a pre-season programme in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on March 9.

He said: “I know my role more this season and have a lot more knowledge of my own game.

“I expect to be opening the bowling if I am fit and playing well. If I can get 50 first-class wickets I will be more than happy.

“I should be looking to do that, but I will have to work very hard for it.

“As long as my attitude doesnot change, I hope to keep improving.”
