Banbury Utd 1 (Benjamin 6)

Chippenham Tn 2 (Griffin 15, 89)

Banbury United suffered late heartbreak as they went down to defeat against bogey side Chippenham at Spencer Stadium on Saturday.

It was harsh on Banbury who looked the better side for much of the Premier Division clash.

But it was the Puritans’ third defeat in a row andkeeps them seven points from the relegation zone, but having played at least two more games than the sides below them.

Banbury were looking to end a run of 12 straight defeats against the Wilstshire outfit, but it was not to be.

It was looking good for the hosts when Declan Benjamin went on a thrusting run through the middle and fired home from the edge of the penalty area for the opener on six minutes.

However, theye were rocked when Alan Griffin rose to meet a right-wing corner and headed the ball powerfully down and into the top corner nine minutes later.

At the other end, Ollie Stanbridge saw his 25-yard shot come back off a post.

After the break, Banbury were denied what they thought was a penalty when David Stone was pushed off the ball eight yards out, but the referee waved play on.

Banbury defender Adam Learoyd then had a goal disallowed for offside.

Chris Snoddy made a great save from a David Staff screamer and minutes later, denied Benjamin as the hosts went for the winner.

However, a minute from time, Griffin headed in the winner for the visitors to send Banbury crashing to another defeat.
