Reg Marshman, a stalwart of Witney Amateur Boxing Club, has died following a lengthy illness. He was 90.

He is credited with reviving the club during the 1970s when it didn’t have a gym.

A former publican – he ran the Griffin Inn in Newland – he boxed during his youth.

But it was his role as fundraiser, co-ordinator and organiser spanning more than 30 years with Witney ABC that he will be best remembered.

Club secretary Anne Setch said: “Reg was Witney boxing personified – a man who worked tirelessly for the club in every way possible over three decades.

“And he remained involved right up until a few months before his death.”

A funeral service will take place at St Mary’s Church, Cogges tomorrow (11am).
