OXFORDSHIRE’S Adam Wootton and Craig Hinton have made it through to next month’s Open Championship at Sandwich.

Wootton, who has been an Oxford City member for more then ten years, finished second in his qualifying event at Rye, in Kent.

A sensational five under par opening round of 63 saw the 23-year-old share the lead with Tom Lewis, of Welwyn Garden City.

And although Lewis hit a second-round 65 to finish on eight under par, Wootton’s 68 saw him come second, and qualify.

Hinton, who plays at The Oxfordshire, won his qualifying event at Royal Cinque Ports, Kent.

The amateur finished on five under par after rounds of 69 and 70 to record a one-shot success from Andrew Johnston.

Eddie Pepperell, however, will have to wait until today to find out whether he has qualified from Littlestone.

The Drayton member shot a two under par opening round of 69, but more than half the field – including him – will have to finish their second round today.

There were four qualifying events taking place yesterday, with only the top three of 72 qualifiers on each course going through to Sandwich.
