Woodstock Harrier Steve Naylor continued his record-breaking year with a scorching victory at the CPM Thame 10K.

Braving temperatures app-roaching 90 degrees, Naylor smashed the old course record of eight years by nearly a minute as he crossed the line in 31mins 23secs – a remarkable achievement on such a hot and humid day.

Such was Naylor’s dominance, that he won the race by more than two minutes ahead of Aylesbury Vale’s Charlie May (33.48), while Oxford City’s Darrell Bellinger was third in 34.00.

In the women’s race, Woodstock’s Sophie Carter took the plaudits, winning in 37.21, with Belgrave Harrier Samantha Amend second in 38.04.

Carter’s teammate Jess Webb was third in 40.08, ensuring Woodstock’s women won the team prize.

Despite Naylor’s best efforts, the men’s team title went to Oxford City.

The hotly-contested trophy for first Thame resident home was won by Jon Hiscox, of Thame Runners, who finished in 36.30, just ahead of George Anderson and Jack Hobbs both just over the 37-minute mark.

The vet 40 men’s title went to City’s Steve Male, who clocked 34.08, while Woodstock Harrier Bryan Vaughan landed the supervet (vet 50) crown in 38.24.

The vet 60 prize went to Alan Webb, of Midland Masters (43.08).
