Mike Petersen’s massive rink win proved pivotal as Oxfordshire triumphed 121-112 over Sussex in the Home Counties League at Popes Mead.

Oxon, who were making it two wins out of two in the competition, lost on four of the six rinks.

But with Petersen’s four of Richard Jackson, Trevor Beaumont and Ian Whelpton destroying skip Derek Dyer 29-10, Oxon took the points 14-8.

Paul Comley’s side of Brian Bloomfield, Steve Jones and Jim Bland provided Oxon’s other success, beating Marc Lancaster 23-13.

Chris Earl’s rink of Steve Tolhurst, Paul McGrath and John McGeough went down 20-19 to Scott Edwards with the Sussex skip picking up a single shot on the last end to snatch victory.

David Allin’s side of Trevor Prew, Steve O’Keefe and Will Campion were also narrowly beaten, 19-17 by Mike Law.

Colin Whitehead’s four of Mick Nash, John O’Shea and Richard Claridge were beaten 25-20 by Darren Anderson.

And Mark Charlett’s rink of Allan Hunt, Paul Skidmore and Kevin Alder were blown away 25-13 by Aaron Sexton.

Oxfordshire bid to complete a hat-trick of wins against Berkshire at Three Mile Cross, Reading, on Saturday.
