Oxfordshire's Carole Galletly and Katherine Hawes were members of the England team pipped by Scotland in the Women's British Isles International Series at Llandrindod Wells.

England missed out on the title on shots difference after both teams finished with three wins from their four games.

Banbury Central’s Galletly and Oxford City & County’s Hawes featured in wins over Wales (140-95), Jersey (126-97) and Ireland (126-88) after England lost their opener 128-108 to Scotland.

Galletly, playing at lead in a side skipped by Cambridgeshire’s Ellen Faulkner, featured in rink wins over Scotland’s Peggy Thomson (30-14), Wales’s Kathy Pearce (26-16) and Ireland’s Sandra Bailie (34-9), together with an 18-17 defeat by Jersey’s Sue Noel.

Hawes, at No 2 in a side skipped by Huntingdonshire’s Catherine Popple, enjoyed rink wins over Wales’s Wendy Price (34-13) and Ireland’s Sarah Jane Gorman (16-13), but lost to Scotland’s Lynn Stein (21-14) and Jersey’s Jean Renouf (20-18).

TWO Banbury Central teams will represent Oxfordshire in the National Triples Championship at Leamington Spa in August.

Carole Galletly, Stella Amos and Caroline Campion, the 2008 national champions, and Annie Gilkes, Pauline Wilson and Pam Shepherd went through by winning their semi-finals at Henley.

Galletly, Amos and Campion defeated Oxford City & County’s Sue Mayo, Margaret Stacey and Jeanette Berry in the last four.

And Gilkes, Wilson and Shepherd, meanwhile, saw off Oxford City & County’s Jan Gore, Cyndy Lee and Carole Penson.
