Group B leaders Democrats Club’s impressive form in the Oxford Summer League continued with a 5-1 thrashing of Masons at Osney, writes PETE EWINS.
Having dropped only two points in their last four matches, Democrats soon swept into a 3-0 lead, thanks to Terry Green 4,930-2,220, John Patey 6,940-2,930 and Billy Hill (5,960).
Although Mick Murphy pulled a game back for Masons, wins for Patey, who scored 10,070 and a fine effortby Hill (9,470) completed the hammering.
Third-placed Gladiators Club A crashed to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of their B side.
BoB Pincombe scored 6,090 in the opening leg to put the A side in front.
The B side then took the next five legs with wins by Phil Clark (4,420 & 2,670), Reg Johnson (3,840 & 5,080) and Pete Smith (5,050).
Group A leaders Comrades Club are five points clear after a 3-3 draw at home to Berinsfield Club.
Second-placed Didcot Con Club kept their title hopes alive by beating Marlborough Club 5-1 at home, with wins from Dennis Atkins 8,940 & 9,670, Dave Tooke 4,360 & 7,370 and Sue Atkins 3,370-2,790 over Chris Iagoe.
