DIDCOT’S Alex Nicholls, 14, won the under 18s’ junior open at Badgemore Park, Henley.

The seven-handicapper had rounds of 74 and 79 to win the scratch prize by a single shot on the par-69 course.

Nicholls, who puts in hours of practice, has been a member at Goring and Streatley since he was ten.

His ambition is to gain a scholarship to a golf academy in America after he leaves Oratory School at Woodcote.

He is being coached by Berks, Bucks & Oxon’s Matt Woods, from Donnington Grove, near Newbury.

  • CHRIS Myall won Kirtlington’s inaugural Seniors’ Club Championship with a total of 160.

Myall shot rounds of 81 and 79, while John McHarg was the nett winner, with scores of 64 and 67.

  • THE Oxfordshire’s Craig Hinton finished joint 23rd in the International European Amateur Championship at Halmstad, Sweden.

Hinton, who also qualified for last month’s Open at Royal St George’s, carded rounds of 75, 70, 73 and 69 for a one-under-par total of 287.

  • DUSAN Gavrilovic and Paul Simpson are teaming up in the Skins PGA Fourball Championship qualifier at Goring & Streatley.

Gavrilovic, the Studley Wood professional, and Simpson, from Witney, who is based at West Berkshire will be targeting a place in the £30,000 final at Forest Pines, Lincolnshire from October 5-7.

Also playing together are Adam Wootton (Oxford Golf Centre), who also qualified for last month’s Open, and Clive Bowler (Sonning).

They are both former Oxford City champions.
