Oxford City suffered extra-time agony last night as they bowed out of the FA Cup with a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Redbridge at Court Place Farm in their first-round replay.

Ben Bradbury scored the winner in the first period of extra time as the Ryman League Division 1 North side fought back from Lee Steele’s opener. So it’s Redbridge who will travel to Crawley in the second round on December 3.

Mike Ford’s side, who drew the first game 0-0 at Redbridge, started with the former Oxford United duo of Steele and Steve Basham in attack.

The game was delayed for ten minutes after traffic problems.

It was the Londoners who started the stronger and Jack Ashton had his work cut out to keep a tight rein on Nathan Gordan.

Gordon was brilliantly denied by veteran Keith McLoughlin, who tipped his header over the bar.

City took the lead when Steele smashed the ball home from close range on 19 minutes after Wayne Blossom had headed back a Felipe Barcelos corner.

It was all City, with Adam Learoyd’s header saved by Adam Rafis and Ballard seeing his header tipped over as they searched for a second goal.

After the break, City were forced to defend, although Glen Colby was lucky not to score an own goal on 53 minutes when he sliced Barcelos’s shot wide of the goal.

Ford threw on subs Declan Benjamin and Marvin Martin to add extra energy.

But Redbridge, who dominated the second half, levelled on 70 minutes when Gordan fired home the rebound after McLoughlin had saved Bradbury’s spot-kick awarded for a foul on Robinson by Learoyd.

City went in search of a winner and William Sendall did well to foil Benjamin, before Basham shot wide.

With seven minutes left, Rafis denied Benjamin with his legs, before a tremendous run from Joe Gardner ended when his shot deflected into the arms of McLoughlin.

Redbridge should have taken the lead early in extra time, but Turpin’s header hit a post and Gardner blazed the rebound wide.

Minutes later, they grabbed what proved to be the winner with a brilliant individual goal from Bradbury, making up for his earlier penalty miss.

Two terrific saves from McLoughlin to deny Bradbury and Gordon prevented a heavier reverse for City, who can nevertheless be proud of their run.
