Ben Cotton, from Charlbury, has made a great start to his college career in the USA.

Cotton, a member at The Oxfordshire, is studying at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas where he is top of the regional rankings.

Having picked up a victory and a second place in his first three outings, Cotton is No 1 in the Jayhawk Conference season standings.

Cotton, who joined the college in August, leads his Hutchinson teammate Mike Muller by 1.5 points with a combined score of 20.5.

The competition resumes in February.

FIVE Star Events have announced former Liverpool defender, Republic of Ireland international and Oxford United manager Mark Lawrenson as their 2012 celebrity.

The Oxfordshire-based charity series has raised £7,500 for the Footsteps Foundation this year, with former snooker player Willie Thorne their celebrity.

Five Star’s final event of the year is the Tony Buck Cup at Studley Wood today.

THE Oxfordshire raised more than £8,000 for BBC Children in Need at their charity golf day on Friday.

Twenty-three teams took part in the event, which was followed by an auction.

The winning team with 91 points were Richard Williamson, Paul Woodbine, Robert Williams and Chris Milner, while the best individual of the day was Gary Pickford with 43 points.
