JOHN Brodley has stepped down from first-team involvement to concentrate on a new role as development director with the Oxford Rugby Partnership.

The move sees Tevita Vaikona handed more responsibility as Oxford Harlequins head coach, with selection and squad composition coming under his remit.

Oxford Rugby chairman Ron Macdonald said: “This is a role that is vital in moving the club forward and John’s skills and experience are key to making it work.

“To allow John to fully focus on his new role, Tevita Vaikona’s remit as head coach has been extended to include responsibility for the senior coaching structure, senior squad composition and team selection.

“Club captain Jamie Cope has also joined the existing coaching team of Tony Edney and John Gunther.

“Jamie not only brings a wealth of experience, but a strong sense of tradition as the Cope family have long been stalwarts and supporters of the club.”

Macdonald outlined the main objectives of former director of rugby Brodley’s new position.

They are to build a solid infrastructure within the club, and develop links with the local community to promote Oxford Rugby.

They also want Brodley to build a solid ‘pipeline’ from the minis, juniors – both Oxford and Quins – and colts into the senior sides.
