PAUL Fernandez (pictured) helped England to the vet 35 team bronze medal in the British and Irish Masters' International cross country event at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow.

The Abingdon Ambler finished 19th, clocking 26mins 48secs for the slippery two-lap 8km course, which included a treacherous downhill descent.

Fernandez, who was third English vet 35, and ninth in his category from the five nations, said: “It was the toughest course I have ever run on.”

Also in an England vest, Oxford City’s John Exley ran 24.32 in the reserves match over 6km.

The 64-year-old said: “I was pleased with my run, in a time which would have given me third in the vet 65s had I been a year older!”
