Oxford University captain John Carter today named seven Blues in his pack to face Cambridge in the Varsity Match at Twickenham next week.

Carter has gone for experience up front, with another two forwards, who appeared in last year’s victory, chosen as replacements.

Oxford will have the same tight five they had in 2010, with Hamish Macdonald, Gov Oliver and Will Kane forming the front row, plus vice-captain Karl Outen and Tom Evans at lock.

The only newcomer is the impressive American Derek Asbun at blindside flanker, while Louis Mather is at openside and Carter, who missed last year’s match through injury, at No 8.

There is no place for Australian Dan Guinness, who stood out at No 6 last year, but has been ruled out with a back injury.

Replacement hooker AJ Connor and prop Lewis Anderson complete the Blues among the forwards.

Wing Sean Morris, a winner in 2008 and 2010, is the only Blue among the backs, although Harry Guinness, Dan’s brother, is again on the bench - from where he won his Blue last year.

Cassian Bramham-Law is named on the other wing and will be the place-kicker.

England Sevens player Tom Mitchell starts at fly half, with 19-year-old Sam Egerton at No 9.

Gavin Turner edged out Harry Guinness for the inside centre berth, while Hong Kong international Baz Perkins wears the No 13 shirt and Jon Hudson is at full back.

There is no place in the 23 for wing Luke Jones, who started ast Twickenham last year.
