Banbury United took revenge for a 3-1 away drubbing at Barwell with a comfortable 3-0 win against the Evo-STik Southern League Premier Division’s highest scorers at Spencer Stadium.

Goals from Ben Polk, Dan Chilton and Ricky Johnson sealed victory for Ady Fuller’s side and ended a run of two defeats.

Banbury were quickly into their stride, with Johnson seeing his shot hit a post with keeper Liam Castle rooted to the spot.

Minutes later, a cross from Glenn Walker found Aaron Woodley, but he failed to get a clean connection, and Castle gathered.

But they kept up the pressure and were rewarded when they took the lead just after the half-hour mark.

Polk cut in from the left and let fly from all of 30 yards, with the ball flying under Castle and into the corner of the net.

Five minutes later, the Puritans doubled their advantage. Castle failed to hold Nick Kingston’s corner and Chilton poked home his first Banbury goal over the line.

Two minutes before half-time, Johnson’s diving header from a Kingston cross crashed against the bar.

In the second half, Barwell tried to get back in the game, but Banbury’s rearguard held firm.

Johnson sealed victory with a 20-yard strike – his first league goal for Banbury.

Substitute Danny Edmond then had a goal disallowed for offside as Banbury cruised in.
