HARRY Carr ran in six tries as Grove hammered basement boys Marlborough 81-6.

Wing Carr dominated Gro-ve’s 13-try haul, but the game began with Marlborough slotting two penalties.

From there, the floodgates opened, with centre Tom Harrington the first to score.

Carr ran in a hat-trick, fly half Dave Maryon converting the third.

Tries from full back Gareth Hudson, Carr and centre Dave Johnson, plus a Maryon conversion, made it 39-6 at the break.

No 8 Joe Bellinger and flanker Matt Young crossed over in the second half, then Carr ran in his fifth and sixth, Maryon converting four.

Wing Guy Nicholl, whom Carr has supplanted as top-scorer, bagged a late brace, both converted by Maryon.

Wallingford suffered late heartbreak for the second home game running after a 25-19 defeat to leaders Beaconsfield.

The hosts led by a point with two minutes to go before Beaconsfield bagged a converted try.

Wallingford went close when hooker Tom Hill couldn’t quite take a deflected scoring pass from scrum half Derek Viljoen.

Beaconsfield then broke away for a converted try, but Wallingford levelled through fly half Ralph Smith from centre Pete Holton’s off-load.

Prop Antony Marris bagged try No 2, Smith converting both for a 14-7 half-time lead.

Marris charged in from 40 metres to make it 19-5, but Wallingford could not hold on.

A try and a penalty reduced the arrears to 19-13, then a third try saw Beaconsfield trail by just a point.

They struck again to leave Wallingford with only a losing bonus point.
