Match fishing

IT’S not often matches are won with an all-dace catch these days, but Charlbury AC’s Mark Taylor showed it can still be done.

He captured their Consolation Cup on the Evenlode at Fawler with a nice bag of the silver fish weighing 5.15.0. Waggler and maggot was the successful combination.

Steve Arthurs took second with 2.10. 8, pipping Gary Didcock by four ounces. Nine fished.

There were also a few dace caught in Kidlington’s Harry Parsons Trophy match on the Cherwell, but it was chub that dominated the top places.

Jan Cebula had three decent ones on pole and maggot for 9lb, plus a few dace, to top the 15-strong field with 10.5.0.

In second place was Paul Jackman, who had two chub on pole and maggot for 7.1.0, followed by Dave Britnell with 4.13.0.

Coldstone AC’s Open on the Evenlode was won by Barry Giles with three chub on pole and maggot for 10.4.0.

Doug Robinson caught a quality net of skimmers and a few small carp on pellet and pole fished tight to the lilies for a winning 27.8.0.

Paul Hutchings used the same tactics, but could not connect with the silver fish, finishing second with 22.4.0.

Brian Hutchings was third with a mixed net of silvers and small carp on pinkie and pellet for 12.11.0.

Eight anglers fished Mar-ston’s Blackford Trophy on the Cherwell and a big perch in the last ten minutes gave Anthony Tomkins top spot.

He had only small perch and roach on the pole over groundbait and maggot before that late stripey gave him a winning weight of 6.0.0.

Close behind with 5.13.0 was Graham Bradshaw, who also had a big perch to go with smaller roach and perch.

Wayne Rudman had an all-perch bag on lobworm for 4.12.0 and third.

Meanwhile, the draw details for Marston’s Jim Foster Memorial match on January 22 have been changed. It will be now be at 8am at McDonald’s car park in Botley Road, fishing from 10am to 3pm.
