Witney's Michael Bunyan was the leading local driver as more than 200 cars raced to destruction in the 24th annual Heavy Metal Classic banger meeting at Standlake Arena, writes Dave Goddard.
Bunyan finished second in the under 1800cc bangers class behind Exeter’s Steve Bailey in a Nissan Primera as a great mixture of high-speed racing and heavy crashing was enjoyed by the large crowd.
Bailey also dominated the separate class for Ford Mondeos, making it six race wins on the day, including two championship finals.
And he was also the last man moving in the 1800cc Demolition Derby.
Paul Golden took the unlimited equivalent in his Jaguar.
Reading’s Alan Hunt won the unlimited bangers race in fine sideways style in his Toyota Supra, while other winners included Steve Beasley, Sonny Sherwood and Carl Korszewski.
Standlake regular Keith Reynolds took three wins in his Lancia Gamma.
