Chris Wilder says he is looking for his Oxford United team to take Sunday’s excellent second-half showing in the 1-1 draw at Burton into the home game against Barnet at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow.

Trailing to a first-half goal from Adam Bolder, a brilliant individual strike from Alfie Potter brought a dominant U’s side level after the break.

It followed the half-time introduction of recent signing Oli Johnson for midfielder Asa Hall.

Wilder admitted that Burton’s bold approach to the game had taken him a bit by surprise, but he delighted with his side’s response after the break.

He said credit should go to manager Paul Peschisolido’s side for the way they adapted their game to cope with United’s 4-3-3 formation.

“They started better than us and I can’t be embarrassed about that, but I’m disappointed, course I am.

“If you think I’m sat there thinking I’m happy about the situation for the first 15-20 minutes, of course I’m not.

“But sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition.

“If that was a battering first-half – and they were magnificent – I thought our second-half performance outshone their first-half performance.”

Wilder added: “When we made the tactical changes and turned it around – Did we have more opportunities than them? Did we have more shots on target? Did we have more possession than them second-half an did we create more? And did we work their goalkeeper more?

The answer to all those questions is ‘yes’.

“It (the personnel change) wasn’t to stifle them, but to go and win the game.

“I have got to congratulate the players for taking on-board what we were trying to do and carrying that out and giving a much better second-half performance in all aspects of the game.”

Wilder said a repeat of that second-half display would be the order of the day against Lawrie Sanchez’s Barnet side, who have won four of their last five games.

“If there was a league table for chances created and level of control, we would be right at the top of that.

“But there isn’t and we have 18 games left to make sure we still keep the standard of performance up.

“And we have to make sure that is married to results.

“It has been a disappointing in the last two home games and no one’s more disappointed than the players and myself.

“We’re a couple of wins off where we want to be and any team that goes on a consistent run will find themselves climbing the table and that’s what we expect to do.”

“Barnet have been good recently and we will respect them like we do any other team.”
