WANTAGE Cycling star John Paul received the Chris Hoy Award for a second time in three years after excelling at the Revolution 36 event in Manchester.

The 18-year-old helped Team GB finish third in the sprint meeting, behind winners Team Sky, who were led by Hoy, and V-Sprint.

After the qualifiers, Paul found himself in the same heat as Hoy and Michael D’Almedia, of France.

Paul finished second, only a bike length behind Hoy.

He was still surprised to win the award, which is presented annually to the most promising Scottish track cyclist and has only been in existence since 2008.

Paul’s next competition is the Herne Hill Good Friday Sprint in London on April 6.

  • Henry Latimer collected two awards at the Cycling Time Trials champions night in Hinckley last weekend.

The 18-year-old, from Shillingford, scooped two third-place prizes for the junior BBAR (Best British All-Rounder) competition and the Rudy Project Junior Time trial series.
