Centre Oscar Vallance ran in a hat-trick of tries as Oxford University bounced back to winning ways with an emphatic 41-19 victory over Crawshay’s Welsh XV at Iffley Road last night.

Vallance opened the scoring, going over following a good handling move, and full back Matt Janney added the conversion.

Crawshay’s replied when full back Lee Robinson broke through two tackles to score out wide, and they went ahead when Russian No 8 Yury Vengerov drove over from a five metre scrum, James Reid converting.

Vallance added his second try on the half-hour mark, before Janney stepped his way over following a mix-up in midfield.

He added the conversion and then winger Heewon Cho finished off a move started in the Dark Blues own 22.

Crawshay’s hit back to score with the last play of the half when replacement wing Ben Seru kicked ahead and won the chase to touch down. Reid kicked the conversion to make it 24-19.

Janney notched his second try after the break and added the conversion, before Vallance raced in from 40 metres for his hat-trick.

Scrum half Ruiari O'Donovan completed the scoring when he won the chase to a kick ahead to score in the corner.

OXFORD University will be raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care at next Wednesday’s home game against touring side, the HSBC Penguins (7.15).
