OXFORDSHIRE’S Pauline Withey won the British Isles Ladies Open Championship without dropping a leg.

She captured the crown by defeating Sussex’s Sandra Race 2-0 with an aggregate score of 10,650-5,890 in the final.

In the earlier rounds, she beat Oxfordshire’s Sonia McIntyre 8,660-3,460, Sussex’s Bella Stoner 9,480-5,180, Oxfordshire’s Jenny Florey 16,450-3,070 and Sussex’s Collen Park 15,360-3,940.

KENNINGTON moved within a point of regaining the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League Premier Section title – despite a 3-2 defeat at Didcot Conservative Club.

Keith Sheard (9,020) and Steven Sheard (11,220) put Kennington 2-0 up.

But Didcot took the next three games through Dennis Atkins (9,980), Sue Atkins (8,200) and Jenny Florey, who beat Mark Trafford 3,840-2,260.

Now Kennington will be champions again if they secure a point against Vikings Club tonight.

West Oxford Democrats Club went top of Section 1 with a 4-1 win over previous leaders Comrades Club.

Bob Parsons (5,620), Terry Green (4,610), John Patey (9,140) and Billy Hill (5,080) were Democrats’ winners, with Chris Alexander (6,670) replying.

Democrats top the table by a point, but Comrades still have a game in hand.

Masons A beat their B side 4-1.

Maxi McDonnell, Dave Rose, Martyn Wood (4,720) and Alan Lowe (6,130) were the A team’s winners, with Chris Webb providing the B’s side lone point.
