JOE Winpenny spoke of his pride in leading Chinnor to promotion and hailed the great atmosphere on the day.

Captain Winpenny, who had a great game at loose-head prop, said: “It feels fantastic.

“I don’t think it has really sunk in yet. I don’t think it will until tonight.

“It has been a real privilege to lead the best Chinnor side I have ever played in.

“It is not just down to me, there are 15 leaders out there, especially the likes of Matt Goode and Andy Smith and Tom Whelan when he comes on.

“They are talismanic players and it is easy to captain a side with them in.

“It was such a great atmosphere. They came out in numbers today and it really helped us through.

“We wanted to get the result for ourselves and for all the people who have put a lot of hard work in.”

Winpenny added: “We had a man in the bin early on and had to dig deep, but that was the game-defining moment.

“They only scored three points when we were down to 14 men.

“Tonbridge carried on trying to have an arm-wrestle with us, but the boys up front were just unreal.”

Chinnor’s set pieces were rock solid, just when they needed to be, especially against the wind in the first half.

Winpenny said: “It was very satisfying from a front-row perspective.

“It is crucial to get the first shot in, as it were.

“We did that and I think that set the tone for the rest of the game.

“The team spirit is as good as it has been.

“It was a complete squad effort.

“This year we have got the strength in depth that we have never had before in previous seasons.”
