Eddie Edwards hit the night’s only six as Premier side Three Pigeons slayed the Gladiators 2-1 in appalling conditions for the opening week of the Greene King Oxford & District League season.
Edwards (4-6-3), Kevin Giles (5-4-4) and Neil Lyon (3-5-5) all hit 13 dolls apiece, while Chris Jenkins (4-5-3) top-scored for Gladiators with a dozen.
Premier champions the Cricketers slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against New Club A.
Only Philip Adams (4-5-3) for the hosts, and New Club’s Adrian Shepherd (2-4-5) hit double figures in a windswept alley.
In Section 2, Ampleforth Arms hit more dolls than the Griffin, but still lost 2-1.
Gordon Kitchen (2-4-4) and Jeff Glenister (3-2-5) top-scored with ten dolls apiece for the Griffin.
Newcomers Bullnose Morris posted a 2-1 victory at Team Monarch in Section 3, clinching victory in a three-stick decider .
In Section 5, Ian Gardiner (5-4-4) was top dog for Vikings C with 13 dolls in their 2-1 win at home to Queens Head B.
Young James Morrison (5-3-4) led the way for Masons Arms B with a dozen dolls as they won 2-1 at Gladiators B in Section 6. John Flynn (3-3-5) hit 11 for Gladiators.
John Cleaton (3-5-4) clanged off a dozen dolls for King & Queen in a 2-1 win at home to Red Lion Wolvercote.
