A DISAPPOINTING middle-order batting collapse proved costly as Banbury bowed out the Kingfisher Beer Cup at Barnt Green by 46 runs.

Chasing the hosts’ 191-7 off 45 overs, a half-century second-wicket partnership between Ian Tew and Craig Haupt looked to have put them on the way in the Group 12 final.

However, the middle order of Richard West, Jonny Cater, Luke Ryan and Jamie Coles added just two runs between them, putting the Midlands side on top.

Banbury’s tail-enders then tried in vain to save the situation.

Captain Jimmy Phillips said: “We produced a good bowling and fielding display.

“We lost Nathan Hawkes early which was obviously a blow, but then Ian and Craig were going along nicely.

“However, the ball started spinning and we lost quick wickets against a good bow-ler.

“And we did not recover from that.”
