DUCKLINGTON are calling on players to rally round after their 2nd XI were dismissed for just ten runs in an OCA League match at the weekend.
There were seven ducks as their ten-man side lost by ten wickets to Risinghurst 2nd in Division 11.
“It’s very embarrasing for the club,” said secretary David Duthie, who normally plays for the side, but got called up to the first team because of a shortage of players.
“We had five 14-year-olds in the side, but they were not ready for the step-up to adult cricket.”
Duthie is worried that the club, who run a youth section, might have to withdraw the 2nd XI from the league unless more players make themselves available.
“That is a serious possibility, as two OCA clubs have already withdrawn teams this season,” he added.
“We are a small village club, and when the rain caused matches to be called off last month, some players found other things to do with their Saturday afternoons.
“We need them to make themselves available for cricket – we just don’t have enough players.”
Any cricketers who wish to help Ducklington out of their plight can contact Duthie on 01993 702261.
