Lawrence Clarke tops an eight-strong Oxfordshire contingent competing in the Olympic Trials at the weekend.

And the 100m hurdler is hoping to continue his good form this season.

The 22-year-old, from Christmas Common, near Watlington, won the UK 100m hurdles title last year and represented Great Britain at the World Championships in Daegu.

He needs to finish in the top two in Birmingham on Sunday to confirm his place at London.

“It all comes down to that race on July 24,” he said.

Like Hatti Archer, Clarke was this week named in the Great Britain team for the European Championships in Helsinki which begin next week, but will not be allowed to compete if he qualifies for London 2012.

Former Radley runner Carolyn Plateau will be looking to impress in the women’s 800m, which gets under way tomorrow evening.

Plateau ran a personal best of 2mins 5.22sec in the BMC Nike Grand Prix at Watford a week ago, so goes into the trials in top form.

Three other Radley athletes also go for glory.

Hurdlers Ashley Johnson and Richard Baderin, who joined the club this year, are running against Clarke in the 100m hurdles.

Johnson, a former decathlete but now concentrating on the sprint hurdles, had good results at both the EA championships and Bedford International Games.

Baderin has been nipping at his heels and managed to get the decision at the Oxfordshire Championships, despite them being given exactly the same time.

Sprinter Tara Kafke, who moved to the 400m this year, will also be looking to progress beyond the heats A former English Schools winner over 100m, Kafke has concentrated on the shorter sprints, but took the decision going into the winter season to move up.

The Oxfordshire challenge is made up by Oxford City’s David Gain, who takes his place in the men’s 200m on Sunday.
