OXFORD Ladies have won the OLCGA President’s Inter-Club Championship for the first time in 32 years.

A thrilling final against Henley at Burford saw the title come down to the final green in the final match.

Tracy Roberts and Maggie Edwards were one-up against Sarah Arnold and Maggie Buffin going down the last, and won the hole to seal the triumph.

Dee Chappelle and Maggie Findlay won the opening match, but Henley fought back to level when Janet Lawson and Jane Atkin beat Jane Taviner and Judy McCairns.

But Roberts and Edwards held their nerve to seal victory.

Oxford reached the final with a 2 & 1 victory over Frilford Heath, while Henley beat Studley Wood by the same margin.

It proved a great few days for Oxford – and in particular Edwards – who was also part of the victorious team at the OLCGA Autumn 3-ball Alliance.

A huge field of 84 ladies from nine different clubs took part in the event, hosted by Oxford.

But it was Edwards, Clare Fox and Jan Glover who just came out on top.

They beat the Frilford Heath threesome of Kate Evans, Iona Smith and Sue Russell by one point to land the prize.

To show just how crucial home advantage was, all but three of the remaining 15 prize winners came from the host club.
