Oxford City general manager Justin Merritt insisted he won’t panic despite seeing his side lose their last three Vanarama Conference North matches matches, writes Matthew Bruce.

City were buoyant after rising to third in the table, but their form has since taken a nosedive, culminating in Saturday’s disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Hednesford Town.

However, Merritt is in no rush to make sweeping changes to his side.

“It is a project,” he said. “You can’t just build a team and everything’s instantly going to go great, that doesn’t happen even at the top level.

“We didn’t get carried away when we were scoring and everything went in and likewise we’re not going to get carried away and make rash decisions now.”

But Merritt said he does have plans to add more new faces to the side.

City gave a debut to Spanish defender Kiko Insa on Saturday and Merritt hinted at further additions.

He said: “Certainly we are one or two players short of being a top six team in this division.

“That’s not to say that we don’t want to work with the players that we’ve got.

“But it is a results-orientated business and sometimes you haven’t quite got the time to develop them as much as you would like.

“We want to be up there challenging and the players are ambitious as well, so if we can get one or two players in positions that are going to strengthen us then we’ll look to do that.”
