EDDIE Pepperell has safely made the cut at The Open Championship after carding a second-round 70.
The Frilford Heath member shot one under on a rainy day at Carnoustie, with an eagle, birdie and two bogeys, to reach the latter stages.
Pepperell, from Abingdon, headed into today’s second round on the back of a level-par 71.
He made a consistent start with five pars, before picking up a shot at the sixth.
But his progress was curtailed by bogeys at the eighth and tenth holes, seeing him slip back to one over.
Pepperell steadied himself and an eagle at the par-five 14th propelled the World No 72 to one under.
He then finished with four successive pars to climb towards the upper echelons of the leaderboard.
