Oxfordshire welterweight Daza Usher recorded his ninth professional victory with a first-round technical knockout success against the previously unbeaten Karl Wiggins in a dinner show at Villa Park leisure centre.

It completed a good last couple of weeks for the Bicester fighter who last month was crowned British Masters champion after a technical knockout victory against Essex welterweight Vincenz Keuch at Grays Civic Hall.

Weighing in at ten stone eight pounds, Wiggins, who had won all five of his previous professional fights, came in three pounds above the agreed fight, giving him a distinct weight advantage over Usher.

But it was Usher who started the six-round contest the stronger.

The county man was proving too good for Wiggins, who was strongly backed by some noisy supporters, as he used a fast jab to great effect, keeping his opponent at a safe distance as he took a closer look.

That culminated in a sharp one-two combination that rocked the strong and muscular Bournemouth fighter back on his heels.

Realising he was losing the round, Wiggins decided to commit himself to a salvo of punches as he desperately tried to force his way back into the bout.

Those tactics played right into Oxfordshire fighter’s hands countering superbly with a fast counter righthander that landed clean on his opponent’s chin as he stepped into range.

A stunned Wiggins fell back on his heels, with only the ropes keeping him upright and off the canvas.

Seeing that his rival was clearly hurt, Usher upped the attacks as he went for a quick finish.

After throwing a brilliant threepunch combination, the referee jumped in between the two fighters in order to spare Wiggins from further punishment.

Seconds later, he raised Usher’s arm to stretch his professional record to nine victories and four losses from his 13 contests.

And Usher could not hide his delight after his win, which came so soon after his masters belt.

“I’m really pleased with my recent run of victories and I’m keen to keep the ball rolling,” he said.

“I am still on a high from winning my first professional title, so this victory has made it all the sweeter for me.”

He added: “I love boxing and it is great to be able to pass my knowledge on to others at the Bicester boxing club."
