ALEXIS Canter hopes he can continue to dispel the nerves that come with playing at Wimbledon after recording his first career victory at the Junior Championships.

Long Wittenham's Canter partners Finn Bass in the second round of the boys' doubles today against fourth seeded Reilly Opelka and Akira Santillan.

They are third on Court 8 from 11.30am, with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.

Tuesday's 6-4, 7-6 first round victory over Emil Reinberg and Stefanos Tsitsipas, came three days after his exit in the boys' singles.

Canter admitted nerves played a part in a 7-6, 7-5 defeat to Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki on Saturday, but was pleased with how he handled the occasion of playing doubles in front of a packed crowd on Court 16.

The 17-year-old said: "In the singles, I felt slightly nervous the whole match.

"It was the occasion - I'm used to playing tournaments where you walk to the courts by yourself.

"But I felt, because I had played that match and was used to the atmosphere, I did not feel the nerves as much in the doubles.

"If I play this event again next year, which I will, I want to lose those nerves."

Canter did not have his serve broken on Tuesday and saved two set points in the second set, before the British pair clinched the tie-break 7-4.

The teenager, who trains at the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre in Abingdon, is enjoying playing at SW19 alongside the men's draw.

He added: "After being in the singles, winning in the doubles is a great confidence boost.

"I believe we can get a lot further in the tournament."
