A WOMAN who dumped two vehicles in a Banbury car park has been ordered to pay a total of £1,235 by a court.

Donna McCooke, of Dover Avenue, Banbury, failed to turn up at Banbury Magistrates’ Court, and was found guilty of two counts of unauthorised dumping in her absence.

The court heard she had left a derelict green Vauxhall Cavalier in the parking area of the Willy Freund Centre, Dover Avenue, Banbury, on April 20.

A month later, on May 8, she left a wrecked red Ford Transit motorhome in the same car park, despite having been asked to remove the previous vehicle.

Magistrates fined her £500, and she was ordered to pay £720 court costs and a £15 victims’ surcharge.

After the hearing, George Reynolds, Cherwell District Council’s executive member for environment, recreation and health, said: “We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour when disposing of a vehicle is so simple to do.

“Scrapyards are easy to contact and most will take vehicles away free of charge.

“Some will even pay a small amount for the scrap value.

“These days, dumping a car is simple laziness but for someone to do it on their own doorstep is surprising, especially as the council has regularly publicised its willingness to prosecute car dumpers.”
