WALKERS are being urged to sign up for a fundraising walk with a difference — it starts at midnight.

Adderbury-based Katharine House Hospice is looking for walkers and volunteers to take part in its fourth annual midnight walk.

Last year’s event saw 750 people pounding the streets of Banbury and raised £107,550 for the hospice.

This year’s walk will take place on Saturday, June 19, starting at Banbury Rugby Club, off Oxford Road.

Walkers will complete a 12.5-mile circle through Banbury, taking a break half-way at woodgreen Leisure Centre, and return to the rugby club for a memorial balloon release and bacon rolls.

The walk is open to anyone aged 12 plus and there is a shorter seven-mile option was well.Registration costs £15 and includes a training schedule and t-shirt. Walkers are urged to raise at least £50 in sponsorship.

Fundraising manager Sue Lane said: “This is our fourth walk and it has become a very popular and valuable revenue stream for the hospice.

“We were delighted by the fantastic amount raised last year.

“This is so very much appreciated by everyone at Katharine House, especially in view of the downturn in general donations over the past 18 months.

“Registration is now open and we have had over 200 applications already without any major promotion.

“It is a great community event and so much fun for walkers and the volunteers who help us to run it.”
