A RADIO presenter is urging people to ‘vote Lucy’ and help her win a Sony award.

Lucy Jones, who presents Banbury Sound’s lunchtime request show, is competing against the likes of Jarvis Cocker on BBC 6 music and Waqas Saeed, who presents the BBC Asian Network’s early breakfast show, for the Rising Star Sony Award.

But the 24-year-old needs people to vote for her if she is going to be in with a chance of winning.

She said: “I am up against other radio presenters from bigger stations, including Jarvis Cocker, and I need every single vote and all the local support that I can get.

“The race is on and finishes this coming Friday.”

Lucy and colleagues from Banbury Sound have been pounding the streets and knocking on doors to get people to vote. And in Hanwell, the Moon and Sixpence pub has done its bit by putting ‘vote Lucy’ on the bottom of all its menus.

Lucy, who only started her full-time radio career last spring, is one of five presenters who made it to the final of the Sony DAB Rising Star Award 2010.

To vote for Lucy view sony.co.uk/risingstar by April 30.

The winner will be announced at the Sony Radio Academy Awards on Monday, May 10, at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Those who vote will also be entered into a competition to win tickets to see England play at the World Cup.
